Lighting Design — ASHRAE 90.1-2022 + IES + LPD Compliance

Real lighting power density (LPD) compliance per ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1-2022 SI Edition, illuminance targets from IES HB-2019 / RP-Series, fixture layout, occupancy-sensor / dimming / daylight-response flags. Source-derived from the EEP Lighting Module rulebook (LISP *EEP-ASHRAE-DB*). 49 space types · both methods · CEC + NEC reporting.

ASHRAE 90.1-2022 Tables 9.5.2.1-1, 9.5.2.1-2, 9.5.2.2 IES HB-2019 / RP-1-12 / RP-3-13 NECB 2017 Canadian equivalent

1 Method & Space

ASHRAE 90.1-2022 §9.5.2 — choose Space-by-Space or Building Area method.

2 Target Illuminance

IES HB-2019 / RP-1-12 (office) / RP-3-13 (education) / NBC 3.2.7 (emergency) — illuminance categories.

3 Fixture & Layout

Lumen-method point-by-point output is the canonical approach (IES RP-1, RP-3, RP-29).

LPD Compliance

ASHRAE 90.1-2022 §9.5 — installed power density must not exceed the table allowance.

Illuminance & Layout

Lumen method: required lumens = E × A / (MF × CU). Spacing-to-mount-height ratio governs uniformity.

Mandatory controls. ASHRAE 90.1-2022 §9.4.1.1 requires the following based on space type: (c) Occupancy sensor, (d) Multilevel/dimming, (e) Daylight-response sidelight. EEP flags each space's requirements above. These cannot be waived — they apply regardless of LPD compliance.
